Abstract
A short story was adapted for the stage. It dealt with the “poetics and politics of heterosexuality”, exploring the relation between sexual politics and wider politics. Actors were intended to “embody the text”, familiarising the audience with South American politics. TB minutes noted “women are…perceived as armed fighters” in political struggle with various psycho-sexual weapons. Production report notes the “aural poetry” of Valenzuela’s language, “as well as the striking images contained therein” were readily translated into a “theatrical idiom” exploring issues of torture and politics otherwise foreign to Australian experience.

Other Weapons adapted from the story by Luisa Valenzuela by Sharon Peel, Jules Mortensen, and Angie Bosnic. Fourth Version adapted from the story by Luisa Valenzuela by Sharon Peel and Samantha Bond. The company was committed to gender exploration. The application for funding included financial details. Production report notes financial difficulties and return season to be staged at La Mama during Spoleto, largely due to assistance of Andrew Ross (Theatre Department).
